You're So A-Peeling

You're So A-Peeling (bananamania) 

We have this crazy banana's belief that being hard on ourselves will help motivate us to do something. 

That somehow beating ourselves up will make us to do the thing we've been avoiding or struggling with.  

Sometimes this works, but it takes a lot of our energy, and it isn't sustainable. 

Our self-talk might look something like: 

"I should know this by now." 

"Everybody else seems to get it, what's wrong with me?" 

"I know better and shouldn't be doing this." 

"I've missed out all these years and now I'm so far behind." 

How do these statements make you feel? (This is your clue as to whether or not they are effective or not.) 

Now try these thoughts on and see how they make you feel: 

"I might be exactly where I need to be in life right now." 

"We are all on our different journeys in life and my path is unique to everyone else's. No path is necessarily better than anyone else's, including mine." 

"My past has taught me exactly what I need for my life now and in the future." 

"My past experiences give me wisdom, as well as the ability to hold beautiful space for myself and others." 

When we tell ourselves we "should be" different than we are, or that we "should" be somewhere different on our life journey, we are actually moving AWAY from what we say we want. 

When we are focused on what we don't want, we get more of that. It's the Law of the Harvest. 

What we focus on multiplies. Our brains are programmed to find more evidence of what we task it to look for. 

When we've practiced untrue thoughts a lot, we believe them to be true facts. But they're not! 

They are neuropathways, which actually can be re-routed. This is easier than you might think. 

Bottom line is, IF we're going to believe UNTRUE facts, why not believe positive ones?  

Let's write and practice the stories we want to create in our lives on purpose.
