Transform Your Perspective: 3 Questions to Unlock Success

You know, as we're all trying to grow personally and professionally, it's so easy to get caught up in what didn't go according to plan.

Inspired by the book "The Gap and the Gain," I've adopted a simple yet profound practice.

I keep a little list of three questions on my desk, serving as a daily reminder to approach challenges with a new perspective:

  • What went right?
  • What went wrong?
  • What would I do differently?


Starting with "what went right" is a game-changer. It shifts our mindset from dwelling on failures to recognizing achievements, no matter how minor they may seem.

It's about embracing a positive outlook and acknowledging our efforts, regardless of the outcome.

By following up with "what went wrong" and "what would I do differently," we can constructively analyze our experiences, learn from our mistakes, and pave the way for growth and improvement.

EXAMPLE using Weight Loss

What went right? I stuck to my weight loss program, eating balanced meals and exercising regularly.

What went wrong? I occasionally gave in to unhealthy cravings and skipped workouts.

What can I do differently? Be more aware of the thoughts that drive the behaviors I don't want and write them down, plan meals and workouts ahead, and find healthier ways to cope with stress.
