The Positive Behind the Negative

Guilt used to be one of my top emotions.

A few years ago, someone asked me what I got out of guilt.

This question perplexed me.

How in the world could I be benefitting from GUILT?

It feels terrible!

Being the curious person that I am, I chose to ponder their question.

What I found changed my life. 

Guilt means that something is my fault.

If something is my fault, then I can fix it.

If I can fix it, I have control.

When I feel like I have control, I feel safe.

When I try to fix things to feel in control, I focus on doing rather than being with my true emotions.

Learning this about myself helped me change my relationship with guilt.

We all have positive reasons behind our negative behaviors.
