Rise Above (purple mountain's majesty)
As I was driving home the other day, I saw a beautiful red-tailed hawk soaring in the wind near the majestic Wasatch Mountain Range. I never realized how gloriously purple these Utah mountains are until I moved to Las Vegas and back.
When I see something in nature that strikes me, I often go to Google to search for its spirit meaning and symbolism.
Usually I find specific messages perfectly timed just for me.
Here is what my Google search yielded with the red-tailed hawk:
"The hawk may be calling your attention to old habits, patterns, or defenses that are getting in the way of you relating to your fellow humans."
These past few weeks I've been reading a book called "Mistakes Were Made (but not by me): Why We Justify Foolish Beliefs, Bad Decisions, and Hurtful Acts" by Carol Tavris and Elliot Aronson to learn more about cognitive dissonance.
This book has helped me to recognize a little more about how we as humans frame everything to fit the stories we tell ourselves.
My narrative of life isn't necessarily the truth. I have been awakening at a faster rate than before to my own ignorance. I plan for this journey to continue for the rest of my life and believing that exercising self-compassion along the way will allow for a smoother, deeper and faster unveiling of my illusions.
"Listen and be willing to let your guard down. Trust your reputation into the talons of the red-tail and you will be rewarded."
This speaks to my need to hide and self-protect. A stubborn and ignorant aspect of me does not like to listen to anything that doesn't fit my current narrative. Trust has often been a struggle for me. Trust in myself, as well as others.
"Do not waste your energy tirelessly trying to stir up the answer but find a high vantage and take in the whole picture."
Myopic views of myself and life have kept me extremely limited. Often I find myself trying too hard and spinning in circles feeling frustrated and exhausted. This is a reminder for me that I can choose to zoom out, take a breath and see the bigger picture.
The next time you see something in nature that stands out to you, take a moment to search its symbolic meaning and see if you find a message that’s tailored just for you.
Love and Light!
