Early in my childhood I created a story about the world being dangerous and unsafe.
I had fears about dogs, the dark, water, skateboards, mushrooms, choking and more.
So naturally I avoided these things whenever possible.
When I couldn't avoid, my body tensed as I bathed myself in all the fearful emotions trying to navigate through "scary" things.
These types of experiences were numerous and became evidence that how I was feeling and thinking about the world was correct.
Eventually I came to realize that this might not be the full truth, nor the best story to be perpetuating, but changing it seemed impossible.
Why is it so difficult to change the stories, patterns and behaviors in our lives?
Because every time we tell a story with the same emotions at play, we reinforce those neural pathways.
Repeating these patterns multiple times establishes neural networks that tell our brains and bodies what to do.
Because our brains like to be efficient, they automate the things and we go on autopilot.
Which is why it seems so difficult to change.
Research is now showing how it is totally possible to change our brains.
And it's easier and faster than you might think.
Maybe you don't have stories that are as extreme as mine, nor the same fears, but you may have stories in the following areas:
First step is to become aware of a problem.
Second step is the desire to want to change it.
Third step is to have and use the tools to change it.
I help my clients with all three steps and more!
