"Heart is sea,
language is shore,
Whatever sea includes,
will hit the shore."
~Rumi
I'm learning that being able to name our emotions properly is an extremely important life skill.
Why?
Because language shapes our experiences.
For example,
If I say I'm overwhelmed, but I'm really just stressed then I believe things are worse than they really are.
When I believe things are worse than they are, I engage in more drama and can become immobilized and temporarily give up trying.
When I engage in drama and give up trying, things get worse and I create more evidence that I am overwhelmed. I actually create the overwhelm through mislabeling my emotion.
When I correctly name the emotion as stress, I feel empowered and validated.
From feeling empowered and validated I manage my stress and it lessens.
I create less stress and definitely not overwhelm.
We are powerful creators of our lives.
Our lives impact those around us.
Learning to name and feel emotions is a skill.
This means we have to learn these skills.
I invite you to come on this journey with me and learn how to more positively impact not only your own life, but those who share this planet with you. Let's make this world a happier place.
